We're Still Around

1/27/2016

Picture
Hi everybody! Yes, we’re still alive. I’m sorry I’ve gone MIA on social media lately. Mommy’s been working very hard to finish rewrites and revisions on her scifi trilogy this month, and she just completed them today. It needed a lot of work, but it’s ready for a rest and to move on into edits and proofreading this spring and summer. Mommy gets really immersed in her writing when she’s working on a draft, but I think she’ll be back in her right mind and connected with the rest of life in a day or two. At least she’s good about keeping the basics running. She always takes time out to make sure we’re taken care of before she dives into more writing work.

We also survived the winter weather on Friday and Saturday. Ok, the truth is that we barely got anything from it. It was a cold rain on Friday, which was great for catching up on some extra beauty rest, and Saturday it was snow that didn’t stick until lunchtime. It was nice to watch the snow through the window with the parronts, but I’m glad that cold, wet stuff wasn’t falling on my feathers. Those poor outside birds! They were troopers at that feeder. They just kept eating and bounding around the yard. We even saw a few robins trying to pull worms out of the ground. I don’t think they had much luck. Then again, they were downhill from the septic tank, so I imagine any worm foolish enough to be there would have extra special flavor!

So we’re doing well. Keeping warm and dry. The weather has gone back to normal for us (50’s, with rain once or twice a week). The parronts didn’t miss any work for the weather and in fact, have been very good about sticking to their normal schedule. Get up, breakfast, work, home, supper, chores/errands, exercise, write/read/watch TV, and off to bed. It sounds dull, but we’d rather be blessed by boring routine than rocked by chaos and problems (we had enough of that in 2013-2014 and it can stay away!). We’re healthy and doing well, and hope you are too.

That’s all today – just a check in to let you know that all is well. Take care, and have a great rest of the week!

Luv,

Rush the Grocery Store!

1/20/2016

Picture
Uh oh, there’s a snowflake on the forecast for Saturday morning. They’re calling for a possibility of rain and snow mix. You know what that means: bum rush the grocery store! All it takes is one snow flurry in South Carolina to drive the entire state to a halt. It makes sense. They give out driver’s licenses in Cracker Jack boxes here (I could get one if mommy got the right box of honey nut oats at the grocery store), so folks can’t even drive if the sun is too low on the horizon. And they definitely can’t handle rain, so you know all bets are off for snow and ice. We can’t do it. We don’t have the right equipment (or sense) for it.

Seriously, we know our northern neighbors make fun of how we freak out over winter weather, and perhaps we deserve it. But we don’t get much snow and ice, especially in central South Carolina. Here, if it’s cold, it’s usually dry. If it’s raining, it’s usually warmer. We are SouthTown and this is definitely Heatmeiser territory, so Cold + Rain are rare here. But to be fair, we turn the tables come summertime. This is the subtropics, so 30 degrees here (for a daytime high) is as rare as 80 degrees up north. In fact, we have a name for 80 degrees – it’s called April. You freeze, we melt. It’s all in what you’re used to.

It’s winter now, though, so we all need to work on staying warm. Take care, be safe, stay cozy, and have a great rest of the week.

Luv,

Zack

The bad thing about winter is that it's totally BORING! Oh, my goodness the dullness. Short days. Can't sit outside and scream at wildlife and passing traffic because it's cold. Mommy and daddy sitting behind books, computers, or the TV like zombies. There isn't much to do. It's no wonder so many animals hibernate this time of year. It's a tempting thing, isn't it?

But we're ok. The parronts keep entertained, and we've been on our playgym a lot lately. Mommy's working on her scifi trilogy again, and daddy is reading and working on scanning some old family photos. It's not exciting, but then again, excitement usually equals problems and nobody's got time for that, so we're all good.

I hope winter is treating you well. Stay warm, my friends, and keep tweeting. It's always good to hear from you.

That's all today. Take care, and have a great week.

Luv,

Chloe

Winter  Blahs

1/12/2016

Picture
Well folks, it's winter. We should have figured that we'd have to pay the piper for all of those warm days in December. It sure was nice - and it's over now. It's definitely winter. At least it stopped raining. Now it's sunny and cold. Instead of raindrops keep falling on my head, it's sunglasses are freezing on my head.

At least the parronts have a garage, so they don't have to scrape windows. Unfortunately, a garage doesn't keep them from getting what plagues so many humans this time of year: the winter blahs. Yep, winter melancholy has set in around here. It's  not that they're sad, or that anything's wrong. They just want to hibernate until the weather warms up. Who can blame them, when it's 29 degrees when you leave for work, and you have to bundle up and walk out there looking like the Michelin Man. And don't get me started on mommy's hats. Oh my goodness. Ultimate silly!

They'll be alright. They always are. They have plenty of chores and errands to keep them engaged and exercise, and when that's done they get online and bother you folks, or read books, or watch movies, or mommy works on the trilogy she's writing, or daddy works on scanning old pictures (he wants to digitize them before they degrade). These things make them feel better. We do too, of course. We're the ultimate cheerer-uppers, and we help them with all of the fun stuff (but they're on their own with the work and exercise!).

So it's rolling along here. We're doing well, just fighting the hibernation urge. Spring will be along again before you know it. Until then, we pray there's no snow! Sunglasses freezing on our heads is just fine with us!

That's all today. Take care, and have a great week.

Luv,

Zack

Back At It

1/7/2016

Picture
Hi all; I hope you've had a great week. We're back to our normal routine. The parronts are back at work, and it's been quite a busy week for them. Daddy's workload picked up, and mommy was sucker punched to find out that her boss was hospitalized after Christmas. That was bad news. The worse news was that she had scheduled a meeting for today and guess who got to save that meeting? That's right - mommy! She's had a crash course of two months worth of stuff in three days before  putting on the meeting today. Needless to say, she's been stressed, she's exhausted, and now she's relieved it's over.

As for Zack and me, we're well. We're back on our nap and play during the day, hang with the parronts at night schedule. We preferred them being home during the day, of course (and not getting us up before sunrise - come on, folks, that 'early bird gets the worm crap' doesn't apply to domestic parrots!), but we can adapt. We understand they have to work, and we do our job by being here as their loving companions when their work is done.

I hope your first week of 2016 has been good, and that the return to reality has been less shocking. Take care. Have a happy Friday and a wonderful weekend.

Luv,

Chloe

Happy New Year

1/2/2016

Picture
Hi everybody, and Happy New Year! I hope that 2016 is treating you well so far. We had a nice, quiet new year, which was ok since we celebrated Christmas big and Zack's 16th birthday in style. Thanks to all who participated in Zack's online Twitter party on Thursday. It was a blast, and you made it special by showing up. We had a great time and will have to do that again!

We spent yesterday resting. No, not hungover - the parronts were good about keeping the silly juice (wine) in moderation for New Year's Eve. Really, they wanted to take one last day to rest before diving back into the normal day to day routine. Mommy and daddy are working on little errands around the house today, then tomorrow is church and getting ready for another work week, and then Monday is the dreaded day: back to work. We get our snooze time back. They lose theirs. Back to the alarm clock. How rude!

Mommy says that the reason these breaks are special are because they aren't usual. It's the same thing she said when i whined over taking down the Christmas decorations. "Chloe," she said, "if it happens all the time, then it isn't special anymore." I suppose she's right. Things like holidays and breaks from work are special because they give us a break from the everyday routine. We have a chance to relax and take time out for what we want, instead of what must be done. That is nice.

The good news is that we still have the weekend! So enjoy it to the fullest, folks. I hope you've had a happy holiday season, and that 2016 is starting off right for you. Thanks for being great pals. See you along the way as we all chug along back to our normal routines.

Luv,

Chloe
