It's Football Time!

8/27/2014

Picture
Yea, birdies, it's football time! The college football season kicks off tomorrow when mommy and daddy's alma mater, the University of South Carolina, takes on Texas A&M. Go Gamecocks!

The parronts have been watching the SEC Network in preparation for the game since we got UVerse on Saturday. People in the south get very excited over college football. Mommy still laughs about the meeting she had in San Francisco when they separated into regions on Saturday morning, and everybody in her region had ESPN running on their tablets. Issues from the southeast region: ITS GAME DAY!! Hee hee hee!

Believe it or not, I'm a converted Gamecock. I actually grew up in an aviary in Piegon Forge, Tennessee. That's about an hour away from Knoxville and the University of Tennessee. I do like Carolina, but I have to admit: Rocky top, you'll always be home sweet home to me! Good ol' Rocky Top! Rocky top Tennessee! Go Vols! The parronts say they respect it as long as it's a Southeastern Conference school.

Most of the world went all out for the World Cup last summer. Not in the southeast US. We've been waiting for right now - college football season.

I hope you're doing well. Take care, and have a great rest of the week.

Luv,

Chloe

Fall Fun!

9/30/2013

So Breaking Bad is over, and mommy did a nice round up write up of the series at her blog. Feel free to swing by, as I think she covered it well. I sure am going to miss that show. It was great fun. But never fear, because all is not lost! There’s still plenty of entertainment to come. I had mommy do some checking and we have:

College football season currently in progress. Go Gamecocks! We’re big University of South Carolina fans and SEC fans here;

8 days until the season premier of Supernatural;

9 days until the season premier of Arrow;

32 days until mommy’s new book, an apocalyptic sci-fi thriller called Splinter, comes out;

39 days until Thor – The Dark World comes out (and that big craft show that mommy and grandmommy love to go to and do Christmas shopping at);

60 days until Thanksgiving (bread dressing and rolls – nom nom!);

75 days until The Hobbit – The Desolation of Smaug comes out;

86 days until SANTA! (Christmas!);

91 days until MY 14th BIRTHDAY!; and

92 days until New Year's Day, when humans will drink copious amounts of silly juice and promise to do better next year.

I didn't include Halloween because we don’t do Halloween. When you live in the woods, the mooches don’t come knocking on your door. I hated that when I lived in a neighborhood. I bit one of the kids good on my first Halloween. Now mommy and daddy can’t go to Applebees near our house because that kid grew up and works there now. Oops! Oh well, there’s always Chili’s and it’s closer (and has margarita specials, which mommy likes).

I think we’ll be alright, as it seems there’s plenty to entertain us and keep us busy in the coming months. Fall is a fun time! The weather is  nice and there’s so much fun! I’m glad I’m all recovered and ready for it.

That’s all for today. Take care and have a great week.

Luv,

Zack

Slow Weekend

9/15/2013

Picture
It's been a slow weekend for us. Daddy is sick with a cold, and mommy has been tired from a hectic week at work. They didn't even go out yesterday, except for mommy to pick up lunch. And there was an incident with that - a man was having a tirade at the place over not liking where his cheeseburger was. He was leaning over the counter, pointing and screaming that it should be in his hands and not on the counter being made. She said that's it, people are crazy. I'm going home. People always go looney when there's a college game downtown and it seems yesterday was no exception. I mean, geeze people. Football is a game. To allow it to dictate your mood like that is silly, even to a bird! I can only imagine how stupid that must have looked. And really, it was dumb to go to the most crowded burger place on the way to the stadium - at noon! -  if your fuse is that short anyway.

I guess humans really like their recreation, but sometimes they get a bit too involved in it. Then again, mommy says that Zack can attack a chew toy with a lasar focus that rivals the biggest college football fan on game day. He can. He can tear up a yucca toy in hours. He calls it focus and precision. I don't know what I call it. Scary? I don't know. It's fun to watch him gnawing and grunting with that single minded determination sometimes too. That's our Zack - small bird, huge personality. There's not another bird like him in the world. And we do love our brother.

I guess I'm a more somber, balanced bird. I like to savor my toys and enjoy food and fun with an even keel. I'm more mellow and take life as it comes, which is also good. There's no need to get stressed or upset over things. Unless there's a predator around, or my tail is stepped on. Then it's on at a whole new level!

That's all today. I hope all of you are having a good weekend. Take care and have a great week.

Luv,

Chloe

Fall Festivities

11/2/2012

Picture
Fall is usually a busy time for our flock. Mommy is going to the annual Craftman's Classic, a big craft show, with her mommy today. She took the day off work. Tomorrow daddy and mommy are going to an oyster roast. Then they start to get time off for the end of the year. Daddy has Election Day off (send in the clowns), mommy has Veteran's Day off, then, of course, there's Thanksgiving (which is also my granddaddy's birthday), Christmas, my birthday on December 31 (I'll be 13) and New Year's Day. And don't forget football season and bowl games!

Yes indeed, it's a busy season. I'm glad mommy and daddy get some time off. It seems most of their holidays from work come in November - December. We enjoy having them around and we LOVE celebrating things!

I'm glad there's some good stuff coming because Halloween was uneventful. It used to be a virtual finger feast for me when we lived in a neighborhood, but since we moved to the woods - nothing. Nobody comes by. Mommy says it's because we're too far off the road and it's dark back here. Chloe thinks it's because the woods at night are spooky to people not used to it, and they're probably afraid we'd chase them with chainsaws (I don't know where she got that silly idea). Ollie doesn't care. He watched "Arrow" Wednesday night and was perfectly content.

Yes, it's a busy season and we enjoy it. We'd better take naps every chance we get! I hope all is well with you. Happy Friday and have a good weekend.

Luv,

Zack

P.S. - we want to wish everybody participating in National Novel Writing Month good luck and plenty of inspiration with your writing. Mommy isn't participating this year because she's already working on a novel that she started last spring, but she enjoyed NaNo when she did it in 2010 - in fact, that book is getting published next year. So writers,

Long Weekends!

9/1/2012

Picture
Long weekends are the best! We love it when mommy and daddy have an extra day at home with us. They need it, too. This schedule change has been tough for them. Changing your schedule is always tough and it takes time to get used to it, even if it is only by 30 minutes.

They say today is R&R day. We got a slow start to the day - they've been up for a few hours, but we just got breakfast cleaned up. It's nice to be able to take your time in the morning and not rush, and Saturdays are typically the only days we don't have to do that. Ollie is sitting in the sliding glass door singing along with the dishwasher. Zack is on daddy's shoulder looking up fun stuff online tonight, and mommy and I are updating blogs and social media.

We're glad the weather cleared up too. Isaac had it cloudy and rainy in spells for several days. The dreary weather hung around a few days, but yesterday it was sunny all day and it looks like today will be too. Hooray for sunshine!

Mommy did a quick housecleaning last night. She also changed out the flowers in the entryway to the fall bouquet. It still feels like summer, but with it being the "unofficial last weekend" she figured she'd go ahead and change them. They're fake, of course, but they're pretty. Lots of yellows and oranges, which are our favorite colors. It's hard to believe it's already September! The summer just flew by.

And college football starts up too. The University of South Carolina Gamecocks opened the season with a win over Vanderbilt Thursday night (Go Gamecocks!). It sounds like daddy plans to watch more games tonight. Something about Clemson and Auburn (Go Auburn!) and Alabama and Michigan (Go Alabama!). They didn't time that well, so we'll be using picture in picture on that one. And as you can probably tell, we're SEC fans here. Mommy and daddy graduated from the University of South Carolina, and I grew up in an aviary in Piegon Forge, TN, which isn't far from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. We pull for Carolina and the SEC teams every time.

That's all this time. I hope you have a great Labor Day weekend. Take care and be careful. I hear the cops are patrolling all over this weekend.

Luv,

Chloe

About Daddy

6/16/2012

Picture
I thought I'd tell you a little bit about my daddy, with Father's Day being tomorrow and all. Boy oh boy, we sure love our daddy!

1.    Daddy likes Star Wars. He likes Star Wars a lot and has since he was little. We sure do enjoy playing the new Knights of the Old Republic game. The Sith are our favorite! And when he does read, he reads Star Wars books.

2.    Daddy likes the University of South Carolina football and baseball. He's a huge Gamecock fan!

3.    Daddy likes technology. Well, what do you expect? He's a computer technician!

4.    Daddy likes to watch movies. He especially likes science-fiction and fantasy. We have Netflix and he loves it.

5.    Daddy serves on church council at our church. Well, his 3 year term will end in December. He was the youngest person on council for a while (not anymore - they have recruited more people in daddy and mommy's age range recently). He even redid their website at www.mttaborlutheran.org .

6.    Daddy's favorite colors are purple and blue. He prefers purple but says that can be difficult to find sometimes, so he has a lot of blue stuff.

7.    Daddy is sweet to the outside birds too. He set up a bird feeder system and checks it every day to make sure out outside friends have fresh food and water. The birds around these parts are well taken care of. I think they all know and love him! Perhaps it's because he's a good man and animals just love him.

8.    Daddy also loves his new car. That Mazda 3 is the first new car he's ever had and he takes very good care of it (well, he takes good care of everything. Daddy's very responsible). Mommy says that car's more tripped out than the Starship Enterprise. That makes me cackle.

9.     Daddy has the power of being tall - he's almost six and a half feet tall! And mommy is short (only five foot one). She said that when they got married, people told her there were no heels on the market that could help minimize that height difference. And they couldn't. He had to duck to do the cake and toast at their wedding reception. (I only know this from seeing a video, as I wasn't hatched yet when they got married in 1998.)

10.    Daddy takes good care of us all. He's a good man and he's humble. If it weren't for him, we'd be crazy from mommy's constant silliness. We couldn't have a better daddy!

So there you have it - a little bit about our daddy. We love you daddy, and hope you have a happy father's day!

Luv,

Zack, Chloe and Ollie
