Restful Weekend

9/13/2014

Picture
We're taking a restful weekend at our home this weekend. Daddy is recovering from an ear infection, and the weather has turned rainy, so it works out well. It's kind of nice to hang out at home, hang out online, and watch football. Well, if the game gets started, as it's on a weather delay. That's the advantage of watching games on TV instead of actually going. You can watch from the comfort of home, and not worry about crowds and dodging weather (and lightening).

You know, I kind of like this. Slow weekends are fun! We got to sleep in and we're just relaxing and grinding our beaks. Plus, we need the rain and it's making the temperatures reasonable, for a change. It's actually in the 80's - can you believe that? It's the first time it hasn't been hotter than Venus out there since May. It doesn't get much better than this. Sometimes, the best times are doing nothing at all.

That's all today. Take care, and have a great weekend!

Luv,

Zack

Silly Humans At It Again

9/9/2014

Picture
I have to give it to mommy - I do believe she's the silliest person I know. Today, she had to feed the feral cats for her parents, and found a chicken in their yard. What does she do? She decides to see if the old wives tale that you can't catch a chicken once it starts running is rue. And it turns out, it is true. She ran halfway across the yard after that chicken. I'll bet that was a sight for everybody driving by, to watch a woman in a green shirt and grey pants running after a chicken and holding her pink cell phone out trying to get a picture. And here's the thing: she's proud of herself for it! "Well, now I know it's true. Chickens can run pretty fast," she said while making tacos for supper.

And in case you're wondering, it seems that silly is contagious. Now daddy has caught the spirit and is watching "Kick A** II." This movie is ridiculously silly. I love it. Moods really do catch, so why not spread a good one? Maybe mommy is learning from me. She says her goal is to be as happy as I am. I'd say she's on her way. Well, I don't chase chickens through peoples' yards, but I think she's getting it in her own unique way. Maybe we'll get daddy in the spirit, too! He has an ear infection, but he's recovering and maybe as he does, some happy energy will overtake him too!

That's all today. Take care, and have a great rest of the week.

Luv,

Zack

Friday Funnies

8/21/2014

Picture
First off, I’d like to open this entry by wishing my daddy a very happy birthday today!

Happy birthday to you

Happy birthday to you

Happy birthday dear Daddy!

Happy birthday to you!

And many more

Please have many more.

Zack and I love you, daddy!

Zack chattered with you last entry about ways our parronts try to relax after a busy day of work. One other way is humor. Mommy isn’t the greatest with jokes, but she does pass along goodies she hears every now. In this entry, I’d like to share a few with you. We’ll call these your Friday Funnies, since tomorrow is Friday. Pass them along!

First is one she saw the other day online. The humor in this one is the unexpected twist:

A man went to an auction where, after a heated bid war, he bought a parrot. He asked the auctioneer “does the parrot talk?”

“He sure does,” the auctioneer said, “he’s been bidding against you for the past thirty minutes.”

Some are puns like this one:

A nun was at an airport waiting on her flight. While sitting there alone, she spotted a machine with a sign that read “Tells your weight and fortune!”

“That’s nonsense,” she said, but she was bored, so she stepped to the machine and plunked in a quarter. A slip of paper came out that read “You are a nun. You weigh 95 pounds. You will play the fiddle.”

“That’s silly!” she said, sitting back down. “I’ve never played an instrument in my life!” But in a few minutes, a man sat next to her with a fiddle. Before she knew what she was doing, she picked up the fiddle and started playing.

“Wow! Who knew that?” Now she was curious about that machine. She went back and plunked in another quarter. A slip of paper came out that read “You are a nun. You weigh 95 pounds. You will pass gas.”

“Now I know that’s wrong because I’ve never done that in public in my life!” she said, but when she sat down, she let out the biggest toot imaginable.

“This is unbelievable!” she said. She went back the machine and plunked in another quarter. A slip of paper came out that read “You are a nun. You weigh 95 pounds. You fiddled and farted and missed your flight.”

Hee hee hee!

And now, here is mommy’s favorite joke. This one is based on the classic misunderstanding:

A preacher got his first assignment in a small community far from his home. Soon after starting, a homeless man that many people recognized passed away. Many in the small town thought it was a shame that this homeless man had no family, so they pooled their resources and asked the preacher to do a brief funeral service. The man was to be buried in a new cemetery on the outskirts of town. The preacher, thinking this would be a great time to prove his worth, agreed.

On the appointed day, he got lost. He hated to ask for directions, so he drove around until he hit the outskirts of town, where he saw a crew out in a field with heavy digging equipment. He rushed to the crew, shouting for them to stop. “I’m here! I’m sorry I’m late!” he shouted. The crew stood by silently with hats in hands and heads bowed as the preacher gave the best sermon of his life, extolling faith from Genesis to Revelation. As he finished, the crew silently returned their hats to their heads.

“Thank you for waiting on me gentlemen,” he said. “You can finish your job now.”

As he was walking away, he heard one of the men say softly “that’s the strangest thing I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been installing septic systems for twenty years.”

Now that’s just silly!

I hope you enjoyed your Friday Funnies! Take care, and have a great weekend.

Luv,

Chloe

Relaxation Techniques

8/19/2014

Picture
The beginning of the school year is always the most stressful time of year for daddy. There's so much technology in schools now, and it seems that everybody forgets things like maintenance, basic care, and effective planning right when you need it most. I think it's that way with every job. What's interesting is to see how the parronts deal with stress and their relaxation techniques for when the work day is done.

Daddy likes games and puzzles. Right now, I'm watching him play a game where he unlocks puzzles on his tablet. He gets one done and it's like "yay! here's another" and they give him another one. Chloe said she'd just eat that puzzle and be done with it. I don't think she gets it.

Mommy likes writing and reading (of course), but she also likes to work off her stress by taking walks on breaks at work, or getting on the exercise bicycle here at home. She has a desk job, so she's stuck behind a computer and telephone all day (daddy is too, but he has to go around the school a lot to check on things). So she works off the excess energy with exercise, and then the excess mental energy through her writing and reading.

I think it's good that they seem to have healthy ways to relax. Some people get stuck in bad habits, and I'm grateful that they've found good ways to unwind. And on weekends, we like our movies (and college football during the fall). You could say they're pretty well balanced people. We're proud of them for that.

And of course, we're glad to help them any way we can, whether it's dancing to silly songs with mommy or throwing stray feathers on daddy's tablet while he unlocks yet another puzzle.

Ok folks, in closing I want to give you a hint: the parronts both have birthdays coming up! Daddy's is on Thursday and mommy's is next Tuesday.

That's all today. Take care, and have a great week.

Luv,

Zack

Overtime

8/13/2014

Picture
I’ve been working overtime on snuggle duty! Consoling grieving humans is a big job, but I’m up to the challenge. Human companionship is, after all, my specialty. Along with being clever, cute, funny, and adorable!

It’s what companion parrots are for. We’re here for you through, through triumph and trials. Daddy has been taking advantages of my services this past week, and I’m glad I can be there for him. Chloe has been here for him too, but we decided that her primary objective is to keep an eye on mommy. We need to make sure the balance is maintained in the home, and she’s doing a great job of helping mommy to keep things moving and getting  back into our normal routine. The hens in our home are really good at running a tight ship here. Thank you, mommy! Chloe and I know you’ve struggled through this too, and yet you still keep your head on and keep it going. We’re here for you and we love you too!

Thank you all for your kind words and condolences over daddy’s loss of his own daddy. I think Chloe said it best in her last entry: you guys are always there for us, and you’re awesome. Friends online are just as real as friends in person. You’ve proven that, over and over again.

That’s all today. Take care, and have a great rest of the week.

Luv,

Zack

Larger Than Life

8/8/2014

Picture
Dear Friends,

Daddy, mommy, Zack and I want to thank you for your prayers, condolences, kind words and support over the loss of our Grandpa. He had dementia and his struggle, especially over the past few months, has been difficult to bear witness too. It wasn't an unexpected loss, but the struggle that went with it was overwhelming.

You guys have been wonderfully supportive. One reason why mommy wrote "Invasion on Anipal Land" was as a way to thank you for your kindness and support when Ollie died. It's terrible that Grandpa followed him a little over 5 months later. And yet, you guys have been here, the whole way. You've been absolutely wonderful. Mommy and daddy have been overwhelmed by your outpouring of support. Words seem to small, but it's all we have. So thank you, from the bottom of our hearts. Anybody that says social media is rude and heartless doesn't know you guys. You've been a Godsend both when Ollie passed and now.

We aren't usually "boy band" fans, but mommy ran across this today and felt like it expressed our sentiments to you perfectly:

Every time we're down, you can make it right
And that makes you larger than life.

You guys are larger than life. Thanks. Enjoy and have fun. The dancing robots and space battle is kind of neat, too.

Take care and we hope you have a great weekend.

Luv,

Chloe

Random Silliness

7/24/2014

Picture
I have to give our parronts credit for their gift of random silliness. Maybe it's part of being human, but sometimes they're just amusing.

Like the other night, when mommy said she'd tell Zack a bedtime story. It went something like this:

Mommy: Once upon a time there was a bird, and he went to sleep. THE END.
Daddy: What was that?
Mommy: Flash fiction.

And boy, did Zack laugh. He got a kick out of that. I must admit that I found it amusing too. That was the shortest story I ever  heard. But I do hear that flash fiction is a growing trend some places. Where, I don't know, but if mommy can suss out a market then you know she'll give it a shot.

Shortly after that, daddy was looking at the news, specifically everything happening in Russia. Mommy said Reagan might have said to tear down this wall, but pretty soon Obama (or whoever comes after him) is going to say "oh, just put the wall back up, Putin. We ain't got time for your crap!" Really? That would be kind of funny. If only she hadn't started on her thing about The Cold War starting back up again. And she says daddy likes conspiracy theories. Yea, ok. But then again, he did just pull up something called "Unsealed - Conspiracy Files" on Netflix, so ...

Zack and I love mommy and daddy. They love us. They take good care of us. And they endlessly amuse us, too. I'll bet your human parronts entertain you, too. Humans are so silly!

Well, I'm gonna go to watch this thing about how the government controls our minds. Hmm. Wonder if that will work to get some popcorn from the pantry to my food dish?

That's all today. Take care. Have a happy Friday and a wonderful weekend.

Chloe

Conure Games

7/10/2014

Chloe made some good points in her last entry. Mommy does talk to us a lot, but she also likes to play games with us too. I rather enjoy games and think they're a lot of fun. She even has daddy join in from time to time.

My favorite game is "peek a bird," where I hide under a cover with daddy and she pulls up the corner and says "peek a bird!" It's fun because I have to guess where she'll pull up the cover next. I try to anticipate her next move and pop out before she does the peeking. It's great fun. She'll do it peeking around corners or cracks in the door, but covers and blankets are the most fun.

Another great game is "horsey." Daddy lets me stand in his shirt and crawls around the floor. The fun is when he stops at mommy and Chloe and we get to say "hey!" Both parronts can get involved in this one, because mommy can move around the room and make us guess where the next "stop" will be (if she hasn't planted her fanny in the recliner).

And, of course, we sing. All the favorites like "Jesus Loves The Little Birdies" and "You Are My Sunshine." Every now and then we'll get really silly and sing a version of "Why Don't We Get Drunk And Chew." Singing isn't her great talent (or one of her favorite things to do), but she can some up with some sillly humdingers.

I do hope all of you know that Chloe's last entry was tongue-in-beak and wasn't meant to be offensive or rude. Mommy's well aware of the fact that she's a chatterbox and didn't take offence. And truth be told, Chloe can chatter right along with her. But I did want to let you know that for all the joking and teasing, we really do have fun and love one another. And every now and then, she actually had a decent idea, too. You just never know, which is why it's worth it to listen and ponder.

That's all today. Take care. Have a Fantastic Friday tomorrow and a wonderful weekend.

Luv,

Zack

I Love My Daddy!

6/14/2014

Picture
Chloe and I are so lucky to have 2 parronts who love and interact with us a lot. Some birds only have 1 parront, or they have 2, but only 1 really interacts with them. I must admit that mommy and daddy are both very involved in our lives. And of course, I'm a daddy's boy all the way. I picked him when I was a wee little 6 week old chick, and it was the best decision I ever made. I'm glad I demanded that he and mommy adopt me. And they thought they were getting a dog. Nope! They got me and later, Chloe came along too (and Ollie for a while).

I sure love my daddy. He's a great guy. He works hard and is dedicated to our best care. He always looks out for us. He even lets us watch cool stuff on TV, like Game of Thrones, Star Wars, Arrow. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and the sometimes weird Orange is the New Black. He has good tastes. He dresses nice. He's gracious and tolerant of our screams and mommy's weirdness. He's a great guy.

Happy Father's Day to all of you Daddys out there - human, birds, dogs, cats, fish, lizards, weazels, whatever, if you're the daddy then it's your day tomorrow! Enjoy and have a great day! I know there are a lot of great Daddy's out there on Twitter, and Chloe and I hope you have an amazing day and weekend!

That's all. Take care and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Luv,

Zack

Summer Schedule

6/12/2014

Picture
So daddy started on his summer schedule, and 3 out of 4 of us are having problems adjusting. Oh, mommy is doing fine. It’s no change for her. But now he comes home an hour later, and it’s a problem for the rest of us! He’s exhausted, and we’re about to go crazy waiting for them to come home from work. It’s good he has Friday’s off, but that’s tiring day for him and a long, lonely day for us. I’m glad I have Zack to keep me company!

Of course, sometimes I wonder if he’s really listening when I chatter at him. He goes right on doing what he wants: playing, eating, and sleeping sometimes, I suspect. But seriously, he is good company. He talks back, which is good, and I’ve learned a lot from him. All things considered, Zack really is a good guy, even if he takes a nap in the middle of an interesting conversation. We may be adopted brother and sister (and we certainly act like it), but as long as both of us stay in our own personal space, it’s all good. And since we have our own cages, it works out really good.

I’m sure we’ll get used to this new schedule. I’m also sure that it will be time for daddy to go back to his regular schedule by the time we do!

That’s all today. Take care, and have a great rest of the week.

Luv,

Chloe
