The 'Eyes' Have It

2/28/2018

Picture
Mommy’s annual eye appointment is on Friday, so she’s planning her entire schedule around it. She can’t do anything close range after they dilate her for the eye exam, so she’s having to make sure that everything “close range” that requires the computer, phone, or any kind of reading is done before the appointment. What a pain. Usually, things are scheduled based on what works when, and when it needs to be done. It’s amazing how you humans have such complicated schedules that one thing can throw you off so much. The eyes definitely have it this week! But at least we know Friday night will be TV night. Popcorn party too? We can do it if she plans ahead, and she’s pretty good about that!

That’s not the only reason this week has been a pain. Both parronts have had a stomach bug this week. It got mommy first, and then daddy. At least it’s not the flu, which was running rampant around here about a month ago, but still not fun. Thankfully, this bug seems to pass fast. Looks like we’re being Dr. Zack and Dr. Bubbs this week.

In other news, yesterday was 4 years since Ollie passed away with that spinal tumor. He died a few months before his 4th birthday. It’s hard to believe he’s been that gone, and gone longer than he was alive. Ollie definitely didn’t have enough time in this world. What sweet songs he sang. And, in a perfect example of how life is truly a mix, mommy had a reminder picture pop up on Fartbook from when they were at The Grand Canyon 5 years ago. Life is strange: good and bad. I think we could all use some more good!

And in closing, we’re living in the yellow haze. Spring is peeking in, and we’re covered in pollen. It would match me, but I'm staying inside and away from that stinky mess. And speaking of mess, this pollen is making the humans' eyes - and the rest of their sinuses - a runny mess. It’s supposed to rain today and tomorrow, so hopefully that will drown some of it. One nice thing is that our winters are relatively short here, and we get breaks during them when we have warm days. I’m sure it will get cold again. You never can tell in March – it can be 80 degrees one day, and 55 degrees the next. The parronts check their weather app several times throughout the day, because forecasts are constantly changing.

That’s life in our corner of the world. I hope you’re doing well. Take care, and have a great rest of the week.

Luv,

Zack

Parrot Political Rant!

2/22/2018

Picture
So everything is about the government and gun control these days. I don’t understand you humans. You have these huge brains, but every problem comes back to two things: the government, and guns. Mainly, what the government is or isn’t doing about guns. Never mind the other factors involved. Everything is the President or the NRA’s fault!

I don’t understand how you make these connections. A mentally ill person on psychotropic drugs shoots up a school. Mr. President, it’s your fault for not controlling guns! We don’t look at the FBI, who got multiple tips on the perpetrator. We don’t look at the mental health industry, that’s stalled in the early 20th century. We don’t talk about all of the mental hospitals closing to save money. We don’t talk about some of the problems inside of the schools, like bullying. It’s all about guns, and how the President isn’t doing anything about it.

We don’t ban cars because of traffic deaths.

We don’t ban Tide Pods because people don’t know the difference between consumable and non-consumable goods.

We don’t ban TV and the Internet because of pornography.

We don't ban doctor's offices and hospitals because everybody there is sick.

We don’t ban public school because people target them for shootings.

We don't ban funeral homes because there are dead people there, and their potential as a breeding grounds for the zombie apocalypse.

Why? Because it’s all about guns. Down with the President! Down with the NRA! Taking our guns will solve all of the world’s problems. Then nobody will have these killing machines because if we ban them then everybody, criminals included, will give them up. Aww shucks, folks. You got me. Guess I’ll have to hold up the liquor store with a toy gun with a "bang" flag from Dollar General now.

Yea, right.

Here’s the problem, folks: you aren’t birds. Our lives are that simple, but yours isn’t. Actions and decisions have consequences (for better or worse). Things have deeper meaning, and are connected in ways you don’t always see. There’s never just one contributing factor to a problem, and the bigger it is, the more factors there are. And the smart people don’t go around screaming about their idealism – they’re quietly working around the barriers while you protest and whittle everything down to the least (sensible) common denominator. If you’re lucky, they have good intentions. Unfortunately, you aren’t lucky a lot of the time and they don’t – hence, mass shootings, drug crises, and organized crime of all sorts.

The point I’m trying to make is that everything has a lot of contributing factors involved. Addressing one won’t make the problem go away. You need a larger perspective if you really want to get a grip on things.

Think it over. As for me, I need to preen and have a snack. I have a busy day ahead of me. This yukka chew isn’t going to chew itself.

That’s all today. Take care. Have a Happy Friday tomorrow and a wonderful weekend.

Luv,

Acting Like Girls

2/15/2018

Picture
Mommy came bursting in from work yesterday saying “why do people act like a bunch of girls?” And the obvious answer is, because that’s what they are. Poor mommy. Working in a cubical means the walls aren’t real, so she hears every conversation around there. The problem is that people tend to forget this fact, so they gossip without realizing that while she may be in her own little world, she’s still fully aware of the reality around her. Yes, she can revise her novel-in-progress on her laptop and hear what you’re saying, too. Writers are weird like that. They can simultaneously exist across dimensions. In fact, it’s kind of necessary because life and reality don’t stop because a writer is writing. It rolls on, and writers co-habitate fiction and reality. I’ll bet they didn’t know that!

Now you do. All people have eyes and ears, folks. What’s worse is how it runs: talk about this person, then cozy up to them later and talk about that person. You humans think you’re so evolved, but that’s ridiculous. At least the outside birds chattering at the bird feeder are tweeting the truth. Do you even know who you really like, and who you’re pissed off at? I’d say it’s like a big game of Clue except for one problem: nobody did anything because everybody’s blowing hot air all over the place! Thank goodness for central air conditioning. Except that doesn’t really help the stink from it all.

You humans are so silly.

Maybe Chloe could have explained it to us. She was the sweet girly-girl who kept us balanced. Now it’s just mommy and me, and neither of us are girly, or sweet. The adjective we share is “interesting.”  Heck, mommy wrote a sci-fi trilogy, and I learned to imitate space ship noises from Star Wars. Chloe and mommy did good things together. Mommy and I cause mischief and get into trouble together. But you know what? It’s nice to have a mommy with a personality like mine. Finally! She’s a keeper (and I have to keep her on her toes).

Hey, I might not have the beauty tips or the sympathy to urge compassion for this inconsistent nonsense, but I can encourage her to stand up to it and be the better (feisty) person. And she never has to worry about us acting like a bunch of girls.

That’s all today. Take care. Have a happy Friday tomorrow and a wonderful weekend.

Luv,

Bubbles

Happy

2/9/2018

Picture
It’s been good to see mommy happy again. We know writing and publishing a sci-fi trilogy has been a major life goal for her, and are happy that this mission is accomplished. She’s also happy because a work meeting yielded great progress there that will help things to function smoother in the future. All in all, this week has been the exact opposite of last week, which was so bad that she refused to blog because she couldn’t think if anything nice to say. What a difference a week makes!

It’s a good difference, too. We were all sad over Chloe’s death, but mommy took it really hard. It was tough seeing her like that. I was worried about her, more than I was when she broke her foot a couple of years ago. But she’s really perked up this week, and I’m so relieved. I was so happy yesterday that I took 2 baths in my water dish: one while she did her morning Bible reading, and the other when she came home for her lunch break.

Daddy’s perked up this week too, but he also got good news at work that helped. It’s been such a relief to see them doing better emotionally. Bubbs and I were concerned, and we’re glad to see them getting back to themselves and getting back into life. We don’t want our parronts sad. Our mission in life is joy!

Here’s hoping a better week will lead into a great weekend for us all. Have a Happy Friday and a wonderful weekend!

A Secret Treat for Twitter Pals

2/5/2018

Picture
Mommy has a surprise for you. She published her book, and she’s offering it to our Twitter pals on a SECRET SALE through Wednesday at https://www.amazon.com/Emergence-Book-Three-Earthside-Trilogy-ebook/dp/B079KVSVQ7 . That’s right! You can get it for $0.99 now, but here’s the catch: the sale is just for our friends. Why? Because you’re awesome and have been so good to us. You’re always there for us, through thick and thin, good and bad, and never fail to provide love, support, and guidance right when we need it. Chloe's loss has been a shining example of your sterling character. You overwhelmed us with love and support, and even chime in with encouragement when those tough days hit. We thank you for that, and hope we do the same for you.

Don’t have the rest of the trilogy? No shaming from me. I know how life is, so I also released a full trilogy box set. You can get all three books of The Earthside Trilogy for $4.99 at https://www.amazon.com/Earthside-Trilogy-Sherri-Moorer-ebook/dp/B079KWWQM6 .

As a reminder, you can get the Kindle app for free at the App Store (for Apple users) or Google Play (for Android users), so you can read it on your phone or tablet, if you don’t have an ereader. You know mommy: she’s a tree hugger and loves ebooks. (Plus, she hasn’t sold a paperback since 2012, so why bother?)

Don’t tell! This sale is just for Twitter and blog readers! The price goes back up to the regular $1.99 and notifications will go out to the rest of social media Thursday morning. For now, we want to celebrate this as a private release party with you. Who will rise? You'll be the first to find out!

That’s all today. Take care, and have an awesome week.
