I don’t understand how you make these connections. A mentally ill person on psychotropic drugs shoots up a school. Mr. President, it’s your fault for not controlling guns! We don’t look at the FBI, who got multiple tips on the perpetrator. We don’t look at the mental health industry, that’s stalled in the early 20th century. We don’t talk about all of the mental hospitals closing to save money. We don’t talk about some of the problems inside of the schools, like bullying. It’s all about guns, and how the President isn’t doing anything about it.
We don’t ban cars because of traffic deaths.
We don’t ban Tide Pods because people don’t know the difference between consumable and non-consumable goods.
We don’t ban TV and the Internet because of pornography.
We don't ban doctor's offices and hospitals because everybody there is sick.
We don’t ban public school because people target them for shootings.
We don't ban funeral homes because there are dead people there, and their potential as a breeding grounds for the zombie apocalypse.
Why? Because it’s all about guns. Down with the President! Down with the NRA! Taking our guns will solve all of the world’s problems. Then nobody will have these killing machines because if we ban them then everybody, criminals included, will give them up. Aww shucks, folks. You got me. Guess I’ll have to hold up the liquor store with a toy gun with a "bang" flag from Dollar General now.
Yea, right.
Here’s the problem, folks: you aren’t birds. Our lives are that simple, but yours isn’t. Actions and decisions have consequences (for better or worse). Things have deeper meaning, and are connected in ways you don’t always see. There’s never just one contributing factor to a problem, and the bigger it is, the more factors there are. And the smart people don’t go around screaming about their idealism – they’re quietly working around the barriers while you protest and whittle everything down to the least (sensible) common denominator. If you’re lucky, they have good intentions. Unfortunately, you aren’t lucky a lot of the time and they don’t – hence, mass shootings, drug crises, and organized crime of all sorts.
The point I’m trying to make is that everything has a lot of contributing factors involved. Addressing one won’t make the problem go away. You need a larger perspective if you really want to get a grip on things.
Think it over. As for me, I need to preen and have a snack. I have a busy day ahead of me. This yukka chew isn’t going to chew itself.
That’s all today. Take care. Have a Happy Friday tomorrow and a wonderful weekend.
Luv,
Zack
