And it was closed.
What a disappointment! No sign or anything explaining "sorry we didn't update our website but we're gone now." Maybe aliens invaded the place. Maybe a hole to a parallel universe opened up and sucked them all in. Maybe the Rapture happened there and nowhere else in the world. Or maybe it's another causality of the terrible economy. It seems so many places are closing these days.
Daddy said the place was always crowded at their old location, but where it's at isn't as convenient to get to, or easy to find. He said the place was literally down in a hole off the road, past many signs of development. We wonder if they moved because of the rent. That old location is a notorious high-rent district. Barnes & Noble and A.C. Moore were also out in that same area as the old restaurant location, and they both closed up shop last year, saying the rent was too high and they couldn't find another place with as high of visibility that they could afford. All places that did great business - but it still wasn't good enough. What a bummer!
But there was one thing that wasn't too much of a surprise. On the way out, mommy said she noticed that the Vegan Cafe had also closed. That didn't last long - maybe a few months. I guess they learned the reason there are no vegan places in the midlands of South Carolina is because there are very few vegans in the south. You're talking about a place where there's bar-b-que located within five miles of anywhere. Really, vegan in the south is about as appropriate as one of those BBQ pits in Israel, a burger joint in India, or shaved-ice in Antarctica. No market, bad placement, guaranteed fail.
I suppose it just goes to show that in marketing, you win some and you lose some for the strangest of reasons. Good business doesn't guarantee success if the bills are exorbitantly high. Or if you're place is down in a hole.
That's all today. Hope you don't have any bummer surprises like that. Take care and have a great week!
Luv,
Zack
