But Zack, in typical conure fashion, has to be dramatic about it. Now he won’t come out of the cage for daddy first thing in the morning, and he makes a big show of yawning and sitting with his eyes closed (the inner lids, anyway) while the humans eat breakfast. Big stretches seeing daddy off and then, as soon as the garage door closes and mommy puts us back in our cages to get ready – everything changes. Suddenly, he’s wide awake, snacking, and playing with his toys. The sun is coming up and now he’s ready to start the day.
I know what this is: objecting to the schedule change. Zack isn’t a morning bird, and he’s messing with daddy. I can see it. It’s the small things, like how he comes right out for mommy for our breakfast apple. Or peeks over daddy’s shoulder to watch the morning weather forecast. Or preening. Always the preening. The best part of waking up is fluffing while the humans aren’t watching.
Daddy told mommy that he was concerned about Zack late last week, and she laughed. “He’s messing with you!” she said. “He perks right up around seven o’clock, shortly after you leave!” Ah-ha! So she knows it too. Trust a mommy to know her fids best.
Interesting shenanigans in our nest these days, and this time it isn’t me! Well, part of that change is that daddy gets home thirty minutes earlier, and that’s my tough adjustment. It cuts into my afternoon beauty nap time! Now I have to rework that.
I hope you’re staying cool and having a great back-to-school (if that’s possible). Stay safe, and have a great rest of the week.
Luv,
Bubbles
