Now, of course, mommy and daddy are freaking out over Ollie. He’s still
having problems with that nerve inflammation in his leg. The vet said to give it more time because nerve problems take a long time to heal, and it seems that Ollie is a slow healer. The vet said the kidney infection has cleared up and has ruled out injury, tumors, and all other possibilities. We’re sure it’s a nerve problem. It’s also a problem grinding on the parront’s nerves because they know Ollie’s in pain and they want to help him, but they can’t. The vet is scared to put Ollie on more medication because he’s so small. So it’s wait, and keep him comfortable. But since this happened with Macy, mommy especially is nervous.
I can understand her anxiety. She’s had a lot of bum luck over the past year. The tide seems to be turning, but when a human as been on high alert for so long, it’s hard to “dial it down.” It takes time for them to settle down and to accept that there’s no need to stay at high stress levels any more. That’s
one downfall of their big brains. Birds take things as they are and adapt quickly. We identify a threat, notify the flock, and take fight or flight action, and then it’s over and we go back to being our happy selves. Humans stew and dwell, and work themselves up, and make themselves sick with stress and
worry, and cause themselves more problems. Really, I think Ollie is taking his nerve injury better than mommy and daddy are.
We do feel bad for Uncle Stephen and Aunt Nicole. Macy’s unexpected loss is terrible. I remember how sad grandmommy was when Snoflake died a few years ago, and when Little Bit got hit by that car last summer. Good grief, I’ve outlived a lot of cats. Either birds have a better life expectancy, or we’re very sturdy. I’m a sturdy bird, I know. The vet said I’m one of the strongest conures he’s ever seen. Just call me Thor. By the way, where’s my hammer?
That’s all today. We’ll do our best to comfort these crazy humans and keep bopping along our merry way. Take care. I hope you have a Happy Friday tomorrow and a great weekend.
Luv,
Zack
