It was a little over a week before Christmas in 2008 when it happened. It was just me then - Chloe and Ollie hadn't been adopted yet, and I was super excited about the holidays. Mommy was cleaning the house before Christmas, and she was finishing up by feather dusting the furniture. When she got the mantle, something awful happened: it hit my stocking hanger wrong, and it crashed to the floor. It was shattered, as was my spirit. What would happen now? How would Santa know to fill my stocking if it wasn't there? I screamed. I bit. I had a Zack attack. I threw a fit.
Mommy was really upset. She sniffled as she swept up the pieces, promising that I wasn't going to miss out on Santa and she's replace it. She made good on that promise. The next day, she got off work early for an eye exam. Her eyes were dilated and driving was hard for her, so she asked grandmommy (her mommy) if they could go to the craft store and get a new hanger for my stocking. Grandmommy pitied my plight and agreed to help. They not only got a new hanger, but a better one - the special Santa hanger, so he'd know exactly which one was the most important to fill!
Other stocking hangers have broken and been replaced, but nobody has a Santa stocking hanger but me, because it was bought especially to distinguish me from everybody else. Oh, we all have our special hangers. Daddy has his purple wire tree. Mommy has her pink wire tree. Chloe and Ollie have adorable teddy bears with cute coats. But I have Santa. Santa is mine. He himself guards my stocking to prevent any more unfortunate incidents. Well, a figurine of him, anyway. He honors me sharing this tradition with Chloe and Ollie. It's special. It's just for ME!
And mommy is much more careful dusting now, especially the mantle around our stockings!
So that's the Santa Stocking Hanger Story. I suppose we all have our Christmas adventures, and that was mine. But I do love Christmas. It's my favorite time of the year. And it's about a week before my December 31st birthday too. What a festive time
Take care all, and I hope you have a great week!
Luv,
Zack
