Well, according to her, it's Easter itself. See, the word "easter" is a translation of "eastre," which was a pagan fertility goddess, perhaps going back as far as Sodom & Gomorrah. So in essence, the Resurrection of Christ has been linked with an ancient fertility festival that, it seems, caused plenty of trouble in the past. It seems that bunnies, eggs, and chocolate have nothing at all to do with the Christian traditions of Easter and instead are attempts to "draw in" people to the faith by linking it to other things that people seem to like better. Hense, we have egg hunts and gifts when in fact, none of those things are part of the Christian tradition at all.
Hense, the easter demon. So now she says that the demon disguises itself as a bunny and leaves eggs all over the place, hoping we'll make a mess picking them up and stepping on them. Because unless you own chickens, it's probably not a good idea to actually eat eggs you find in the yard.
Can I get a little help here?
It may make you feel better to know she has no problem with the traditional Easter dinner. She says the ham for Easter dinner actually does have a Biblical root to the removal of dietary restrictions. And that she is grateful for, because nobody likes pork like mommy does.
You know what I think? I think the Easter bunny freaked her out as a kid, and she's trying to justify it. But at least we got toys to celebrate "The Holy Days and Resurrection." She gave us new chew kabobs yesterday after our annual checkup with the vet. That went well, by the way. He told us we look great, trimmed our nails and wings, and sent us on our way - after mommy paid the bill. But we didn't find Ollie there either, even though that's the last place he was seen.
Well, we always make it through mommy's pagan rantings, and this year will be no different. Plus, we always get Jiffy Pop for putting up with it. I believe I saw a pan in today's groceries, you know. I may need to poke my nosy nares in the pantry to verify that.
That's all today. Happy Good Friday to you, and have a great weekend and a Happy Easter.
Luv,
Chloe
