Mommy and daddy have bird feeders in the back yard. They’re usually good about keeping them full, but our wild friends are eating a lot more these days since its spring/mating season, so it’s harder to keep up. Whenever the feeder gets a little too empty for their liking, one bird usually flies to the back steps and stares in the house at mommy and daddy. It’s usually enough to make daddy feel bad and get up to fill the feeder. Mommy calls these birds “ambassadors” that approach us to plead their case, and it works, well, all the time.
Then there’s the front yard. The parronts throw their leftovers in the woods in front of the house so the cats/raccoons/opossums will leave the birds out back alone. If they eat out or don’t put out enough food, two or three cats will usually sit in the driveway. And if the parronts don’t “get it,” then the cats will go next door and eat the neighbor’s dog food. Those neighbors are, how shall we put it? Questionable. They don’t check on that dog, so it barks all night when wildlife is bothering him, and they won’t bring him, even for the Apocalypse. And, of course, the dog is tied up outside of the parronts sleeping room (and obviously opposite from the neighbor’s sleeping room, although we wonder if they actually sleep during the day and stay up all night). So it behooves the parronts to keep food out front, too. They actually keep a bag of cat food in the garage for days when they eat out or don’t have enough leftovers. And all for a good night’s sleep.
Geeze. And they call me and Chloe spoiled! We don’t keep them awake at night, at least! Our schedule is worth it. And we’re good birds, anyway. We aren’t demanding or rude like the wild animals are. We’re more civilized than that, and have more proper ways of making our desires known. Like screaming. That usually handles a lot of problems quickly without the need for ambassadors, hints, and various critters acting up to start a chain reaction of insomnia.
Life in the woods is interesting, at least.
That’s all today. Take care, and I hope you have a great week.
Luv,
Zack
