Happy birthday to you Happy birthday to you Happy birthday dear Zacchaeus Happy birthday to you! And many more! Happy birthday Zack! You are our sunshine and we love you. Have a great day. Love, Daddy (Rick), Mommy (Sherri), Chloe and Oliver (Ollie) Christmas was great! Santa came and we got so much stuff! It was wonderful! We got cozy corners, chew toys, popcorn, peanuts, bird snacks, and best of all - Ollie got a new cage! Go Ollie! We also shared many Christmas goodies, including bread dressings and rolls. Nom nom! What a great day it was. We've spent all day today recovering! Well, when we weren't busy playing with our new toys, that is! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and shared it with family, food, gifts and fun.The holidays are so much fun! I'm happy to share a slideshow of images from Christmas 2012 with you. Enjoy! Luv, Chloe Dear Friends: Christmas is almost upon us, and at this time of year, we feel it's a time to tell you how much we love and appreciate all of you for being our friends. We know a lot of people say that online friends aren't really friends, but they're wrong. You guys are just as important to us as everybody else we know. We realize there's a real person/bird on the other side of that computer screen that chose to follow us and read this blog, and we are so happy to share our lives with you. Social media is great because it helps us to connect with people we wouldn't have met otherwise. It really expands your horizons. This really hit home when Zack hurt his foot a few weeks ago. You guys really pulled together and supported us so much. Mommy and daddy were so thankful for your care, concern, and comments. It meant a lot to them and to us. We are very fortunate not only to have good parents, good families, and good homes, but to have you as friends as well. Thank you so much. All of you are awesome! We have so much fun here and on Twitter chattering with you. There have been a lot of good times and good conversations, and I know we're going to keep the fun rolling through the new year and beyond! We also like to bow our heads in memory of a dear friend that passed away recently, Kira Conure. Kira was a sweetie pie that brightened our days and our lives and she will be missed. We love you, Kira! We miss you a lot, but we know you aren't sick or hurting anymore, and we know you are in a place of joy and peace that we can only imagine. You enriched our lives so much. As mommy says to those that pass on, see you on the other side our dear friend. And to Kira's mommy, know that we are thinking about you and care. We aren't mommy's first birds. She had birds before when she was younger and they died, so she knows exactly how Kira's mommy feels. Merry Christmas to all of you, feathered, furred, and human! We hope you have a wonderful Christmas full of joy and that your new year is filled with prosperity and happiness. Luv, Oliver, Zack and Chloe (signed in the order that we appear above) Hi everybody, I hope you're gearing up for a very Merry Christmas. I know I'm excited. Santa will be coming in T-minus 4 days. Whoo hoo! I'm glad to be all better from my foot injury. I am all healed up now. Thanks to all of you for your concern. It's good to feel good again! Mommy and daddy have been struggling with some sort of virus going around lately. Daddy had it last week and mommy got it Sunday. She thought it was over it, but it hit her again yesterday and she's home sick today. I sure hope she feels better soon! She did alright eating lunch - she got up and did a few little things. Maybe she just needs to build her strength back up. Her work has been extremely stressful, and I feel sure that might be why she's taking a little longer to recover. She has to go in tomorrow, then she's off until January 2. I know some time off will do her some good. Daddy has been off all week, but he's been busy taking care of his own "to do" list. He's got a lot done. The best news is that Santa brought their new TV stand early, so he was able to put it together so they can enjoy it without having to worry about assembling it at Christmas. It's nice too. Yay! Daddy will also be off until January 2. I'm glad both of our parents will be off to celebrate Christmas, my birthday, and New Year with us. That's always nice. We love it when they're home. That's all today. Take care. I hope you have a Happy Friday tomorrow and a good weekend. Luv, Zack Dear Santa: Greetings and salutations from our flock to you! I hope this letter finds you healthy and happy and that 2012 has been an excellent year for you, Mrs. Clause, the reindeer, and the elves. The purpose of my correspondence is to share our "wish list" for Christmas. You've always been so good to us, and we appreciate your benevolence! We have been good birds this year. Zack and I fought less this year, which I think is a great sign of progress. Ollie sang more songs than ever and mommy and daddy have worked hard. We'd be happy to welcome you in our home this Christmas Eve/Christmas morning! Let's start with me, the little lady of the flock. This year, I'd like a Cozy Corner. A recent mishap that Zack had with his Happy Hut (that I'm sure you've heard about) resulted in both of us losing our huts. We need something to snuggle in to stay warn on those cool nights, so a Cozy Corner it is. I'm also quite fond of chew toys - those are also welcome. And, of couse, I love peanuts as well. Keep mine roasted and in the shell, please. I love snapping them open. Snap, crackle, pop, yum! My baby budgie brother, Ollie, is a modest young man. All he asks for are millet spray and toys to shake around. But Santa, I really think Ollie deserves a new, bigger cage. He never complains, but he really needs more room for his swing and toys. You made me such a nice one a few years ago. Could you hook up my baby brother too? And of course, you know my big brother, Zack, VERY well. I'm sure you heard of Zack's recent mishap and resulting leg injury with his Happy Hut. He's all recovered now and we're glad, but we want to make sure he's safe. He loves snuggling and I believe a Cozy Corner would be a great treat for him. Zack is also an avid chewer, so wood toys and shred toys are great for him. And for the stocking, don't forget the Jiffy Pop and the Lafabers Featuring Popcorn! And last but not least are mommy and daddy. They'd like a new stand for their TV. The have the den fixed up nice and all, but that TV stand - eww. It's the Waldo of the entire downstairs. Geeze, folks, what doesn't fit here? Please bring them a nice new stand that will work better with the TV they have. As for stocking stuffers for them, they aren't hard to please. A book will be good for mommy. She's quiet when she reads and, well, quiet time is good sometimes! She could also use one of those stress/squeeze balls because her hand gets achey when she types a lot at work, and that helps. Daddy likes Dunkin Doughnuts coffee, dark chocolate, and something fun - I think mommy told you she had a special idea for a great surprise for daddy. I don't want to post it here because daddy reads this blog, but you know what the surprise is! ;) So that's it - the wish list for our flock. We appreciate your kindness and thoughtful consideration of this list. If you have any questions, please feel free to call mommy or daddy. They always love talking to you and are willing to consult with you on any and all of these gifts.
Merry Christmas Santa! We love you! Luv, Chloe Mommy and daddy have been busy with holiday preparations lately, and they said today that they have plans over the next two weekends. What a busy time of year this is! There's so much to do and not enough time to do it, it seems. It makes me glad I'm a budgie and I don't have to worry about shopping, or writing cards, or holiday parties. But we do visit family and friends come to call every now and then. The holidays are all fun for us. We're so lucky. And now there's a lot of talk about Santa Clause too. Oh wow! I like Santa. He always brings us good gifts. Mommy and daddy usually give us something too, so Christmas is full of loot for us. It's raining toys! Halleluijah! What's not to love about the holidays? I suppose it can be stressful for humans, especially since they still have to work while getting ready for all of this. But there is some fun in there. It's good to give gifts to others and to wish them well. It's good to get together to have fun with friends. It's good for people to be merry. I hope you're all having a great holiday season so far. Take care out there and enjoy the season! Luv, Ollie Hi everybody! Thanks so much for your well wishes and support this week as I dealt with my hurt foot. I went to the vet for a follow up visit today, and he said I'm healing well. In fact, he said the medication I was on was too strong and I don't have to take it any more. The foot is still bruised, but it's healing up well and overall I'm doing great. What a wild few days it's been! I am feeling much better, though. I've been chattering with Chloe and Ollie, playing with my toys, making the rounds in my (now happy hut free) cage, and hanging out with mommy and daddy. Yes, I'm healing up nicely, and I'm so happy to be recovering! Not only that, but mommy put presents under the Christmas tree for me, Chloe and Ollie and said we could listen to the radio station that plays all Christmas music all the time tomorrow while she and daddy are at work. Oh boy! I love this time of year. Christmas is so exciting, and my birthday is soon after. Lots of goodies are on the way. So I'm fine, friends. I'm healing up well and I'm alright. Thanks again for your prayers, concern, and well wishes. You guys are the best! I hope you're sweetness is rewarded with a lot of great loot this holiday season! That's all today. Take care and have a Happy Friday tomorrow. Luv, Zack Hi everybody, it's Zack's mommy, SherritheWriter, here. I wanted to give you an update on a scare we had today. Rick (Zack's daddy) and I came home from church to find Zack hanging out of his happy hut. His leg was tangled in a thread, and he was thrashing around trying to get free. It was a small thread, but the harder he pulled, the more tangled it got. And in his struggle to free himself, he broke a blood feather in one of his wings. Fortunately, there's an emergency vet nearby, and we took him there. They looked over Zack and said that his foot was swollen and bruised, but he was ok. His foot strength is still good and he can move around, but it's obviously injured. They said there may be some minor tissue damage, but they weren't sure and said the speed of his healing would reveal that. His fever was also a bit high, so they put him on a pain reliever, an antiboitic, and an anti-inflammatory medication. We're going to have to give him these medications by syrenge every day for a week. The emergency vet also sent a report to Zack's regular vet, and I'm supposed to call them tomorrow to make an appointment for a follow up later in the week. Zack is supposed to rest and try to stay off that foot. That's going to be a trick, considering how active Zack is. But he seems ok to settle in on Rick's shoulder or on his favorite perch. I want to thank everybody on Twitter that supported us today. That was a scary ordeal, and you don't know how much your tweets meant to us. We weren't in that room alone with your support and encouragement coming in. Thank you so much. You guys were our blessing today! I saw once again today that online friends ARE real friends, and you're just as valuable to us as everybody personally interact with. I do hope that your graciousness and kindness are rewarded with a holiday season of abundance and joy and a new year filled with happiness and properity. I also want to tell you bird owners out there: If you have a Happy Hut for your parrot, GET RID OF IT! Zack had chewed on his and although I monitor his toys, it seems he was able to free a threat too small to catch my eye but just big enough to cause trouble. A great deal of the blame for his injury falls to me for not being more attentive to the state of that toy and realizing that it had become dangerous. Thank God he will be ok. I learned a hard (and scary) lesson today, and I want to pass it along to you so you won't have to go through what we did today. Plus, many people on Twitter mentioned that a lot of birds have been hurt and killed by similar accidents with Happy Huts. So if you have a Happy Hut, get rid of it. And always keep a sharp eye on the condition of your birds' toys. When it starts to wear, replace it. Yes, we had quite a scare today, and I feel bad every time I see him holding up that poor, swollen foot. I pray he heals quickly. And as for the Happy Huts - they've all been disposed of and are no longer allowed in our home. As for Chloe and Ollie, they're ok. They were worried about their "big brother," of course, but they sure were happy to see him come home. They're keeping an eye on him. Thanks again to all of you that were there for us. We appreciate your friendship and support. Take care. We'll keep you up to date on Zack's progress. Best regards, Sherri |
